Child Labor

The presents of child labor laws are making our children soft! Gone are the days a parent could send little ones down into the mine at age five, or off to the sweat shops to do labor others were to big or to lazy to do. Here is the problem I face as I set out to plant a garden with my child. This garden was his idea, and he pleaded his case for days. “Mom I will help…can we PPPLLLEEEAAASSEEE plant a garden.” Now I have know this child since I birthed him and I can tell you right now, I smell trouble. So, I caved in and we set out to ready the yard and plant our fabulous garden. First we need to go to the hardware store and buy some supplies. While we are there Ben finds a shovel that is his size and must have it, and of course I am a push over and buy it. We head home both excited to start our project. Ben takes one shovel full of dirt and starts wining “this is too hard” “can we take a break” I can see how this day is going to go. This is going to be a long day I think. Fast forward to the end of the day and we find mom alone in the would be garden, and has been alone for some time. As I finish up the clearing away of the last piece of grass, my darling child comes around the corner and exclaims what a wonder job WE did. That was enough for one day!

Here are some photos I took in the time Ben was helping!
